Stourbridge to Merry Hill Thursday 18-9-14

Talk on Burton on Trent's railways last night ("there where 46 signal boxes in Burton") At the Bonded Wharehouse where we are moored. On the staircase of the warehouse there is a nice stylised picture of the original Stourbridge Lion and the Agenoria (now in York Museum) outside Rastricks factory where they were both constructed. Rastricks building still stands and has been renovated into a doctors surgery and a gym.

So today we have to climb the 230ft from Stourbridge to Merry Hill by means of 25 locks in a flight of 16 plus a flight of 9. We are going to be helped by my big sister, Pam and my Brother in law Jim which will be good.

Set off at 10 and were soon getting to grips with the locks. Just as predicted a couple of days ago "John", a volunteer, joined us on the locks to help out. Picture below shows him and Joanne at the tail of lock 7.

I gave him a bottle of Banks's beer for his efforts which he seemed pleased with and said he would share it with his girlfriend that night.

Then finally moored up in The Waterfront at Merry Hill. A good but energetic days boating.
